Chlorophytum comosum (Spider Plant)

Bring a touch of effortless elegance and natural air purification to your home or office with the Chlorophytum comosum, commonly known as the Spider Plant. This resilient and fast-growing perennial is celebrated for its gracefully arching, variegated leaves that cascade from a central rosette. The long, slender leaves are typically a vibrant green with a creamy-white stripe down the center, creating a striking contrast that brightens any space. As it matures, the Spider Plant produces long, wiry stems (stolons) from which tiny white flowers and "plantlets" or "spiderettes" emerge. These miniature versions of the mother plant can be easily propagated, allowing you to share its beauty with friends and family. A NASA-recognized air-purifying plant, the Spider Plant effectively filters toxins such as formaldehyde and xylene from the air, making it a stylish and functional addition to your indoor environment. It's a perfect choice for beginners and experienced plant lovers alike due to its low-maintenance nature and ability to thrive in a wide range of conditions.

Arabic Common Name:

💧 Watering: Water thoroughly when the top inch of soil feels dry. Allow the soil to dry out slightly between waterings to prevent root rot. This plant is sensitive to fluoride and chlorine in tap water, so using distilled or rainwater is ideal.

☀️ Light: Prefers bright, indirect light. Direct sunlight can scorch the leaves, causing brown tips. It can tolerate low light conditions, but the variegation may fade.

🌡️ Temperature: Thrives in average room temperatures between 60-80°F (15-27°C). Protect it from cold drafts and sudden temperature changes.

🪴 Soil: Use a well-draining potting mix. A standard indoor plant mix with added perlite or sand works well.

✂️ Pruning: Trim off any brown or yellowing leaves to maintain its appearance. You can also snip off the "spiderettes" to propagate new plants.

** fertilizers:** Feed every 2-4 weeks during the growing season (spring and summer) with a balanced liquid fertilizer diluted to half strength. Reduce feeding in the fall and winter.
