Strelitzia nicolai

Arabic Common Name: عصفور الجنة الأبيض (Asfour al-Jannah al-Abyad) or عصفور الجنة الكبير (Asfour al-Jannah al-Kabeer)

Product Description:

The Strelitzia nicolai, also known as the White Bird of Paradise or Giant Bird of Paradise, is a majestic and highly sought-after tropical plant. Native to South Africa, it is revered for its stunning, large, banana-like leaves that fan out dramatically, bringing a bold, architectural element to any space. While it can grow into a tree-like form in its native habitat, indoors it makes for a magnificent statement piece. The leaves are known to split naturally, which is a key characteristic of the plant and helps it withstand strong winds in the wild, adding to its unique and exotic appeal.

Light☀️Prefers bright, indirect light. It can tolerate some direct sunlight, which can encourage growth, but too much harsh, direct sun may scorch the leaves. A spot near a south-facing or west-facing window is ideal.

Watering💧Water when the top 2-3 inches of soil feel dry to the touch. It enjoys consistent moisture but is highly susceptible to root rot if overwatered. Ensure the pot has proper drainage and discard any excess water in the saucer.

Humidity💧💧Thrives in high humidity. If the air in your home is dry, you can mist the leaves regularly, especially during winter when heating is on, or place the plant on a pebble tray with water.

Soil🌱Use a well-draining, loamy potting mix. A mixture of equal parts potting soil, peat moss, and perlite works well to ensure good drainage.

Fertilizer🍽️Feed with a balanced liquid fertilizer once a month during the spring and summer growing season. Reduce or stop fertilizing in the fall and winter when the plant's growth slows.

Toxicity🚫The plant is considered toxic to pets and humans if ingested. Keep it out of reach of children and curious animals.
